Photography: Megan Laura Photography // Hair: Taming RapunzelIt's not every day that the number of hairstylists in the wedding party is greater than those doing the actual hair! But on this particular day, they had me and my helper, Michelle, beat--the bride and two of her bridesmaids are hairstylists. Talk about pressure! I'd be lying if I said this didn't make me nervous. But then, I figured if they didn't like the finished product, they could always fix it. ;) But all went well. (Above: The three blondes on the left are not my work and were styled by Michelle Selles.)

My First Bride of 2016

The 2016 wedding season started with a wedding on January 2! But this party was a delight. The bride, having never met me before, said a trial wasn't necessary. I really appreciated her trust in my skills and for providing me with such a smooth, enjoyable experience. It was a lovely ease into this year's season.

Fine hair can be tricky, especially when a bridesmaid requests a big braid. But by "pancaking" the braid, the hair appears thicker without the need for hair extensions or the use of a hair texture iron.

While this bride's trial consisted of various upstyles (see here, here, and here), she ended up going with loose curls and a front braid. And the look suited wonderfully. Thankfully, she's easy going so this change that happened after her trial wasn't stressful for me. ;)

This wedding was special for me. Not only because the bride is my cousin, but I had the privilege of doing her 3 older sister's weddings over the last several years too. It really is lovely when a bride has so much faith in your abilities that they let you have some freedom and don't "hold you to a picture". I always say the best styles happen when a stylist is allowed to create, of course with some input as to dislikes/likes. So have faith in the stylist you picked and let them do their thing! ;) ;)

And the romantic, vintage inspired look she chose happens to be my favourite. These kinds of updos are so fun to do! I hope they stick around for a little while.
